  • 1 sheet puff pastry 8.6 oz
Cream Cheese Filling
  • 2 oz cream cheese softened
  • 1.5 Tbsp strawberry jam
  • 1 drop red food coloring or beet powder, optional
  • 2/3 cup very small diced strawberries
Egg Wash
  • 1 large egg whisked with 1 Tbsp water
Finishing Touch
  • powdered sugar for dusting

Equipment

  • baking sheet
  • rubber spatula
  • cookie cutter
  • Sharp paring knife

Method

Baking Pastries
  1. Thaw puff pastry according to directions on package and halfway through thawing preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together cream cheese, jam, and food coloring using a rubber spatula until smooth. Transfer to refrigerator until ready to use.
  3. Cut pastry into heart shapes using a 3-inch heart-shaped cookie cutter, spacing them closely.
  4. Transfer hearts to a baking sheet lined with a silicone liner or parchment paper, spacing 1 1/2 inches apart.
  5. Using a sharp paring knife, lightly score a heart inside of each cut-out heart about 1/3 inch from the edge without cutting through the dough.
  6. Add 1 tsp of the cream cheese mixture to the center of each heart and spread outward without covering the 1/3-inch edge.
  7. Add strawberries over the cream cheese layer without covering the edge. Brush the 1/3-inch edge with the egg/water mixture.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 14-15 minutes until edges are golden brown. Let cool on a wire rack and then dust with powdered sugar.
