Spanakopita Triangles

Delicious Greek pastry filled with spinach and feta cheese, wrapped in flaky phyllo dough.

Ingredients
  

Filling
  • 1 lb Fresh spinach Washed and chopped
  • 1 cup Feta cheese Crumbled
  • 1 small Onion Finely chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic Minced
  • 1 large Egg Beaten
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp Nutmeg Optional
Pastry
  • 1 pkg Phyllo dough Thawed
  • 1/2 cup Butter Melted

Method
 

Prepare the filling
  1. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onion and garlic, sauté until softened.
  2. Add chopped spinach, cook until wilted. Remove from heat and let cool.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine cooled spinach mixture with feta cheese, beaten egg, salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
Assemble the triangles
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Lay one sheet of phyllo dough on a clean surface, brush with melted butter. Layer another sheet on top and brush again.
  3. Cut the layered phyllo into strips about 3 inches wide.
  4. Place a tablespoon of filling at one end of each strip. Fold the corner over to form a triangle, then continue folding to the end of the strip.
  5. Place the triangles on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the tops with more melted butter.
Bake
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
  2. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.

Notes
