Ingredients

Bagel Mixture
  • 1.75 cups self rising flour plus extra for dusting
  • 1.25 cups plain Greek yogurt plus extra if needed
Toppings
  • 1 each egg whisked, optional for toppings
  • 2 tablespoons everything bagel seasoning or your favorite bagel toppings

Equipment

  • mixing bowl
  • baking sheet
  • spatula
  • Pastry cutter
  • Pastry brush

Method

Preparation
  1. Add the flour and yogurt to a large mixing bowl and use a spatula to mix it together until a thick dough forms. Add some extra yogurt a little at a time if needed, if the dough is not sticking together.
  2. Dust a clean surface with flour and knead the dough with your hands for a few minutes before forming it into a ball. Let the dough sit at room temperature for up to 10 minutes if you have extra time.
Shaping and Topping
  1. Use a pastry cutter or knife to cut the dough into four even sections, roll each into a ball, and poke your thumb through the center to form four bagels.
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place your bagels on the sheet. If desired, use a pastry brush to lightly coat each bagel with egg wash. Sprinkle everything bagel seasoning or other seasonings over each bagel.
Baking
  1. Bake at 350°F (177°C) for 22-24 minutes (add up to 5 extra minutes for gluten free bagels).
  2. Let bagels cool for 5 minutes on a wire rack before serving.
