  • 1 egg Egg wash a mix of beaten egg and milk for brushing.
For the Custard Filling
  • 2 cups Milk full-fat milk works best for a rich and creamy custard texture.
  • 1/2 cup Sugar granulated sugar sweetens the custard.
  • 1/4 cup Cornstarch this thickener ensures your custard slices hold their shape beautifully.
  • 4 large Eggs using large eggs will provide the perfect richness.
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract adds a warm, aromatic flavor.
For Serving (Optional)
  • 1 cup Powdered sugar dust over the top for an elegant presentation.
  • 1 cup Fresh berries complement the custard slices with fresh fruit.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Prepare the puff pastry by rolling it out on a lightly floured surface to about 1/8 inch thick, then cut it into rectangles.
  3. Bake the pastry rectangles on a lined baking sheet for 15-20 minutes, or until they puff up and turn golden brown.
Custard Filling
  1. Whisk together the eggs, sugar, and vanilla in a bowl until smooth.
  2. Heat the milk in a saucepan over medium heat until just bubbling. Gradually add it to the egg mixture while whisking constantly.
  3. Cook the custard mixture over low heat, stirring continuously until it thickens, about 5-7 minutes.
Assembly
  1. Assemble your slices by placing the baked puff pastry on a serving platter and pouring the custard over one layer. Top with another pastry rectangle.
  2. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving.
  3. Dust with powdered sugar before serving for an elegant touch.
