Ingredients
  

For the Cake Layers
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup milk whole or almond milk
  • 2 large eggs
For the Apple Filling
  • 3 cups diced apples Granny Smith or Honeycrisp
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup sugar
For Assembly
  • 1 cup whipped cream homemade
  • 1 cup chopped nuts optional, toasted walnuts or pecans

Method
 

Baking the Cake
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  2. Mix the dry ingredients in a bowl: flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cream the butter and sugar in a separate bowl until fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Combine the dry ingredients gradually with the creamed mixture, alternating with buttermilk.
  6. Spoon the batter into prepared round cake pans and smooth the tops.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Cool the cakes in their pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks.
Assembling the Cake
  1. Prepare your favorite filling while the cakes cool.
  2. Layer your cooled cakes with generous amounts of filling and whipped cream.
