Description

Shrimp and grits is a beloved Southern dish that perfectly blends tender, sautéed shrimp with creamy, buttery grits. This comforting meal not only satisfies but also brings back fond memories of family gatherings and joyful brunches. Easy to prepare, it’s versatile enough for breakfast or dinner, making it an ideal choice for impressing guests or enjoying a cozy night in.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb large shrimp (deveined)
  • 1 cup stone-ground grits
  • 4 cups water (for grits)
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 2 tsp Cajun seasoning
  • 1/4 cup green onions (chopped)

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan, bring water to a boil. Add salt and slowly whisk in stone-ground grits. Reduce heat and cook for 20-25 minutes until thickened, stirring occasionally.
  2. In a skillet, melt 2 tbsp butter over medium-high heat. Sauté minced garlic for one minute before adding seasoned shrimp. Cook until shrimp are pink and opaque (about three minutes per side), then remove from heat.
  3. Stir heavy cream and remaining butter into the cooked grits until well combined.
  4. Spoon the creamy grits into bowls, top with sautéed shrimp, and drizzle pan juices over the top.
  5. Garnish with chopped green onions and serve immediately.
