Description

Matcha green tea ice cream is a delightful fusion of creamy decadence and earthy matcha, perfect for warm days or as a standout dessert at dinner parties. The vibrant green hue and unique flavor will impress your guests and leave them craving more. This homemade treat is surprisingly simple to make, requiring just a few key ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 tbsp culinary-grade matcha powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 egg yolks

Instructions

  1. Gather all ingredients to streamline the process.
  2. In a saucepan, heat heavy cream and whole milk over medium heat until warm.
  3. In a bowl, whisk matcha powder with 1 tbsp hot water until smooth.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together sugar and egg yolks until thickened and pale.
  5. Gradually combine warm milk mixture into the egg mixture while whisking continuously to temper the eggs. Return to saucepan.
  6. Cook on low heat, stirring constantly until slightly thickened (about 7-10 minutes). Stir in vanilla extract and matcha mixture.
  7. Chill for at least 4 hours or overnight, then churn in an ice cream maker until soft-serve consistency is reached. Transfer to containers and freeze until firm.
